MY PROTOTYPE FOR THE TESTING
An introduction to show what this book is about and what the user should do.
Several pages with images of the works and some backstory. A number at the top is linked to the numbers on the map, and at the bottom of the page there is some space to write.
The map with on all the points the numbers linking to the works in the book.
A personal page with the possibility to explain why he or she took the journal, what his or her connection to art is and what he or she found interesting about the works. Then on the right page there is a space to write about a matter that is bothering them on a daily basis. Below that there is a space for others to comment on that, or give advice or relate to the story.
The cover of the journal which looks simple and personal.
A sticker page to help connect the journal to the actual outside world, one sticker is to put on the page you filled in, and one to put somewhere outside at one of the works. This is a mediation between recognition and staying anonymous.
THE TESTING
When I went to test I received a lot of "no" and payment requirements from the people. When I eventually succeeded in finding a participant he was happy to help me with the testing but did not want to get recorded so I had to take notes from the testing. He did fill in the questions in the journal, from which I took pictures.
The most important reactions and improvement points were:
-he didnt see the sticker page, I had to notify him about it.
-The outside did not specifically say that it was meant for homeless people
-it was annoying to write on the soft cover
-the map was unclear
-The large amount of text in the description of the artwork was too much.
-he wouldn’t want to walk to the artworks because there is a picture of it already.
-he didnt like that he had to give it away and not see it back again, because he wouldn’t be able to read the story of the people who had it after him.
-I am going to make it more attractive to walk towards the artworks by notifying on the page where the artwork is close to, so that if they are close anyways they are more likely to visit the work.
-I will make the map more organized by coloring the pins instead of making it greyscale. this will put the focus on the pins.
-I will probably move the sticker page to the front part of the book.
-Make a hard cover
-Make an extra announcement for who the journal is on the front.
